It Takes a Community to Raise a Startup

Founding a technology startup, let alone a cybersecurity firm, is not for the faint of heart. It takes more than just a great idea or great team to build a successful venture. It takes a supportive community willing to provide a variety of critical assistance – from early stage capital to access to mentors and advisors to programs to accelerator growth. Most importantly, it takes early adopters willing to give a startup a chance to prove their technology and value.

New Brunswick has all of these essential supports and while we had invitations to set up our company in a number of spots across North America and Europe, the best opportunity for our young firm’s headquarters was in our own backyard here in Fredericton.

The Critical Role of First Customers

We would not be where we are today without this supportive community.

A key early success was the City of Fredericton becoming an early adopter and passionate advocate for technology. Thanks to the city we were able to attract other major regional and national customers, which in turn led to us forming partnerships to bring our technology to new markets across Canada and the US and to continued conversations with a number of additional potential partners to offer our technology around the world.

A Startup Factory

From access to mentors, to supportive early customers and access to critical early stage capital as well as fantastic accelerator programs, New Brunswick is well positioned to nurture young firms.

New Brunswick has a tremendous startup ecosystem in the province including Energia Ventures at the University of New Brunswick and East Valley Ventures, our lead investor in our first round. The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation has been a constant supporter, from our earliest days providing invaluable advice and critical early stage capital.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the phenomenal support from Opportunities New Brunswick and CyberNB through market and export development programs that helped us show off our technology at a major international event in Atlanta. CyberNB’s efforts to make New Brunswick a leader in Canada helped us gain traction nationally and internationally.
