President and CEO
NBCC (NB Community College)
From 2011 to 2016, Mary Butler was NBCC’s first Vice-President of College and Community Development, where she led the creation and growth of several award-winning elements of the NBCC Advantage including the Robertson Institute for Community Leadership, NBCC entrepreneurship programs, NBCC Applied Research and Development and the NBCC Alumni Association. She also led the re-branding of the College in its new life as an arms-length, modern public college.
Ms. Butler has served as NBCC’s Vice-President Academic and Research since 2016. In this role, she has initiated the transformation of NBCC’s long-standing academic model to better meet the needs of students, the labour market and communities. This transformation is a driving force towards the achievement of NBCC’s bold goal to grow the annual student population so that the College welcomes over 11,000 learners each year by 2022.
She is deeply engaged in her community - serving on numerous boards and committees at the local, regional and national level, including as Chair of the Board of the Stan Cassidy Foundation and as a long-time volunteer with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Unit.
